Introduction - Potato pulp
An energy source for ruminant feed
Cellulose fraction obtained during starch extraction, wet potato pulp is distributed directly to farms for ruminant feed.
It represents a significant available energy source for the animals with approximately 30% of residual starch.
Wet potato pulp can also be stored on top of other silage to improve overall storage.
Potato pulp for ruminant nutrition - Rich in digestible fibers
Ruminant nutrition
 | Industrial potato pulp is used directly on farm for ruminant nutrition.
It is rich in digestible fibers, hemicellulose and pectins, and contains close to 30% residual starch.
It is raw starch, slowly fermentable in the rumen, therefore not very acidogenic and represents an excellent energy source for ruminants. Furthermore, potato pulp is very palatable. It should be combined with roughage to ensure optimal rumination and avoid overconsumption. It is fed at between 10 and 20 kg gross per bovine. Despite the low dry matter (17% DM), wet potato pulp keeps very easily and does not produce liquid runoff. |
Used stored on top of other silage
Potato pulp can be kept on top of other silage to improve storage.
However, for long-term storage, a cover such as a plastic tarpaulin, is recommended.
