NEOSORB® sorbitol

NEOSORB® sorbitol introduction

Obtained by glucose hydrogenation, sorbitol is the best known polyol. It is characterized by its technological and nutritional properties:

- Sorbitol has stabilizing and moisture-retention properties that allows decreasing water activity (Aw) of finished products, thus modifying their texture and improving their storage capabilities.
It is used for the manufacture of 'semi-moist-’ or treats-type croquettes; alone or combined with other moisture-retention agents (e.g.: liquid sugars).

- From a nutritional point of view, sorbitol stimulates the secretion of pancreatic enzymes and has a detoxifying effect on the liver by increasing the production of bile salts (choleretic and cholagogue effect).
Therefore, sorbitol is particularly indicated to complement the feed of animals raised in an intensive manner:

• Weaning, critical growth phases – All species.

• Gavage and pre-gavage periods – Palmipeds.

• Attenuation of stress reactions – All species.

It is distributed either continuously or as a treatment, through complete feed or nutritional supplements.

- Sorbitol also allows the acceleration of gastric and intestinal transit. In this case it is of particular interest in sow feed, as it limits constipation problems during farrowing.
